Hello, just wondering, so for the people who ate confirmed CWD meat, how long ago was that? Wouldn't it take decades for a prion disease to manifest in humans once infected?

Newsemia
In 2005, a fire company unwittingly served CWD-infected deer meat to 200-250 people. There was a 6-year follow up for the 80 people who agreed...

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but I'm dabbling in zombie fiction and was wondering, what happens to the brains of meat animals after slaughter? Google brings up some really vague or down right A.R. centered answers. Love your blog and your work by the way! Always fascinating stuff.

Newsemia
Thanks for the kind words!  That’s a good question too! Here’s a video on what happens to non-meat parts of cattle, but no mention of the...

Do you think the 'it's illegal to own human remains' myth was perpetuated in the same way the 'don't touch baby birds or the parent will abandon it' in that people spread it to try to keep others from doing it?

Newsemia
If I had to speculate, I’d hazard that people just figure it must be true, so they say it like it’s a fact, to sound...

Hi! So I saw some of the posts about the legality of having human remains, and this could totally be off base but like there was a huge problem especially in the field of anthropology of people grave robbing and getting a hold of remains through shady means, and I don’t know if that would have something to do with that at all?

Newsemia
Certainly. Historically, Native Americans campaigned for the formation of the Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act because people were digging up NA’s (and even...

Hello! I was wondering if you happen to have some tips for someone wanting to start a science communication blog (talking about projects and interesting tidbits of the area for example)? Like which site do you think is better for a majorly written blog or other stuff you think would be useful to know more indicated for a hobby? (Sorry if you have in your FAQ, I'm on mobile…).Thank you for your time!

Newsemia
Hi! It depends on what your goals are. Obviously I like Tumblr: it’s versatile in that you can write long or short posts with text...

I know you made the post about human remains a month ago but I wanted to share- in my junior year anatomy class we had two skeletons. One was plastic. One was plasticized human bones that the teacher referred to as Gertrude. We had an actual human skeleton in our classroom and it was super legal! (Also Gertrude was shrinking thanks to cell decay where the plastic had chipped off the bones)

Newsemia
Interesting! I mean plasticizing isn’t really for bones, but maybe you mean covered in plastic?  Source link...

Hello! I found this blog yesterday, and while poring through your articles I realized that I’ve read your work before, through the sites themselves. My impression has always been that you’re a great writer; now I can say you’re a kind and straightforward person to boot. Thank you for the work you do.

Newsemia
Ah! Thank you so much! That means a lot, it’s so great to see people are reading my writing from elsewhere ❤️ Source link...
