Hi, on your flickr page you posted some photos of a lot of cow bones (and a deer carcass too) on a field, some of the cow skeletons still have skin on them. What's the story behind those pictures? I like your uploads on flickr, so many interesting things to look at. it's a bit sad there's no captions!!

Newsemia
Hi! Yeah I have thought I should organize that flickr account (here) at some point…too many pics though.  Cattle mentioned are in my “found deads” album....

hello i know that post about pet cloning is super old but i was wondering if you have a source on Joyce McKinney saying that the cloned dogs ruined her life? the link goes to a post that doesn't link to an article or interview or anything.

Hi! So I saw some of the posts about the legality of having human remains, and this could totally be off base but like there was a huge problem especially in the field of anthropology of people grave robbing and getting a hold of remains through shady means, and I don’t know if that would have something to do with that at all?

Newsemia
Certainly. Historically, Native Americans campaigned for the formation of the Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act because people were digging up NA’s (and even...

I know you made the post about human remains a month ago but I wanted to share- in my junior year anatomy class we had two skeletons. One was plastic. One was plasticized human bones that the teacher referred to as Gertrude. We had an actual human skeleton in our classroom and it was super legal! (Also Gertrude was shrinking thanks to cell decay where the plastic had chipped off the bones)

Newsemia
Interesting! I mean plasticizing isn’t really for bones, but maybe you mean covered in plastic?  Source link...

Hello! I found this blog yesterday, and while poring through your articles I realized that I’ve read your work before, through the sites themselves. My impression has always been that you’re a great writer; now I can say you’re a kind and straightforward person to boot. Thank you for the work you do.

Newsemia
Ah! Thank you so much! That means a lot, it’s so great to see people are reading my writing from elsewhere ❤️ Source link...

Can you explain how the street-cat post is controversial? I looked through it and saw what I would expect from street cats – they don't have great (or any) vet care and are densely packed populations in most cases, so seeing some thin ones, or ones who're engaged in 'fighting' is expected? At least for me? Could you explain further your thoughts?

Newsemia
Oh sorry, I just meant some of the science of street cat welfare vs. wildlife was weirdly controversial and inconsistent. Like about Trap/Neuter/Return and the...

Hello, I have a question; so I live in MA and I salvage roadkill and stuff I find in the woods and I thought it was all good, but yesterday someone told me that all of that's illegal…? And now I'm kinda scared, because I looked up all of those laws before hand and was pretty certain I was following everything correctly but now I'm just not sure. Did I screw up??

Newsemia
As in many things, it’s neither legal nor illegal, but it’s regulated. A lot of people will just tell you stuff is illegal when they...

So this is a bit derivative, but I'm genuinely curious. 1. How do you get in contact to write pieces for big places like NatGeo or Newsweek? and 2. How do they compensate for just one article? Thanks!

Newsemia
Hi Anon! First for any readers, if you think I shouldn’t post pay rates, you might be right since employers will dislike me for doing...
