Mortality in patients with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures: A wake-up call

Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) are classified as a semiologic manifestation of functional neurologic disorder/conversion disorder in the DSM-5.1 Their clinical presentation resembles epileptic seizures, manifesting as alterations in behavior or paroxysmal convulsive events, but without associated epileptiform changes in cortical activity.2
