Postdoctoral Opportunity: Research in Development and Cancer

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join us in research funded by the National Institutes of Health to identify and characterize new molecular targets relevant to tumor formation and to tissue homeostasis during organ development.

The projects combine genetics, functional genomics and biochemical analysis of cell biological processes that are critical for appropriate organ development and contribute to non-autonomous control of cancer growth, using Drosophila as a model organism.

One project will explore interactions between cell surface signaling proteins that non-autonomously promote growth of tumorigenic cells. A second project will identify factors that make cells vulnerable to killing, via cell competition, by relatively more fit cells in their vicinity. The overall aim of these projects is to identify new targets and strategies that have the potential to overcome non-autonomous killing by growing tumors and to understand the role of competitive cell-cell interactions in normal organ development and physiology.

Columbia University Medical Center is renowned for its dedication to world-class biomedical research. The laboratory has access to state-of-the-art facilities for functional genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics and offers an international working environment in New York City.

Candidates should ideally have experience in one or more of the following disciplines: genetics, developmental biology, functional genomics, protein biochemistry.  Previous experience with Drosophila will be an advantage.  For more information about the research projects and the application process please contact:
