Materialise, a company that 3D prints millions of unique medical parts every year, has partnered with Carestream Health to release a browser-driven pre-operative planning solution. The product will give orthopedic surgeons the ability to plan surgeries and order custom surgical guides and other 3D printed parts from just about any in-hospital computer with a browser.

Currently, dedicated workstations that have Materialise’s OrthoView software had to be used to perform these tasks. The same will be available through a browser login, and since no patient data is stored on the local computer there’s no worry about privacy implications. The new offering is slated to be available in the coming year.

“Carestream and Materialise share the strong desire to reflect our customers’ needs in the products and services we offer,” said Anna Marchenko, product manager for OrthoView at Materialise, in a published statement. “We see significant value in collaborating in this initiative to offer an innovative hospital-wide deployment option to our mutual customers.”

“We’ve worked closely with Materialise and specifically Materialise OrthoView for many years, and appreciate their dedication to finding new ways of providing customer-focused solutions,” added Thierry Verstraete, global product manager for clinical solutions and analytics, Carestream.
