Reader response: Core cerebrospinal fluid biomarker profile in cerebral amyloid angiopathy: A meta-analysis

We read with interest the article by Charidimou et al.1 on the core CSF biomarker profile in cerebral amyloid angiopathy. We have concerns that database retrieval of this meta-analysis is incomplete. The authors only searched PubMed, whereas Embase, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov were missed. It is widely accepted that meta-analyses should search multiple databases. The selection of databases is ideally based on the potential contribution of each database to the project or on the potential for bias if a database is excluded. Searching PubMed but not EMBASE risks bias in meta-analysis by finding studies that show larger estimates.2 Similar meta-analyses published in Neurology® did search the other databases.,4
