Relationships between neurologists and industry

The medical profession and medical industry (pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturers) have longstanding relationships that are synergistic when they promote research or develop new products that enhance patient health and welfare. However, these relationships may be harmful if they lead patients to question whether medical decisions involving them are being made in their best interest or their physician’s financial interest. Although the boundary between a useful and a harmful relationship is sometimes blurred, intervention is always necessary to avoid, mitigate, or otherwise effectively manage evident conflicts.
